I was born in the Spanish Mediterranean city of Barcelona. When I found myself some years later drawing and redrawing letter forms on my desk at school every single day I knew two things: one, that my teacher would make me erase them and two, that I was starting to feel very attracted to shapes, colors and textures and how they can transmit messages and influence people’s emotions. In order to reach deep into that enigma I ended up studying Graphic Design and Visual Communication at ESDI (Universitat Ramon Llull). After graduating, my final project “Itinera” was published in the annual Spanish graphic design publication, Select.
After a few early freelance Identity projects, I decided I needed to learn more about Typography and Editorial Design. I earned a Masters in Advanced Typography at Escola Eina (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona) where I learned, among other skills, how to design, develop and produce digital fonts. After that invaluable experience, Typeface Design became one of my main tools to make brands communicate in a unique and exclusive voice. I started the international type foundry Tiponautas with my colleagues Ricardo Santos (Portugal) and Charlie Zinno (Argentina), where we distribute our fonts and offer diverse Type Design related services.
Since then, I have worked for Spanish and international studios, publishing houses and large digital agencies both as a part of creative teams and as an independent Art Director and Designer. I have even had the opportunity to teach children how to design their own letters!
In 2011, I decided to move to the US with my lovely Californian wife where I immediately became the guy with a heavy accent. I had to find a balance between my European conceptual design approach and the specific needs of the American market.
I tackle each project with a solid, conceptual approach, focusing on Brand Design and Identities, Type and Editorial Design, Reponsive Web Design and User Interface Design. I develop small projects with the same care and standards as larger projects that require detailed and strategic planning. I don’t trust design trends. I research, learn, analyze and build consistent visual languages across multiple channels. I always listen to my clients. I’m a lucky guy, I love what I do. I’m always eager to hear about engaging design projects and I love challenges so… Challenge me!
